Have You Been Shedding Deadweight Lately?
Here’s Why That’s a Good Thing…
Have you had the feeling that over the past year, you’ve been shedding deadweight? You know—the things, people, or habits that no longer serve you. Maybe you’ve moved cities, reassessed your boundaries, cut off toxic relationships, or stopped that corrosive habit of people-pleasing. Maybe you’ve made decisions that, at the time, felt risky or uncomfortable—but now, looking back, you can see how necessary they were.
Here at She Innovates, we’re not astrology girlies, so we won’t tell you it’s because “last year was the year of the snake” or anything like that. What we can speak to is the shift we feel when we take steps to align with God’s purpose for our lives. That shedding—the letting go—is not random. It is God’s way of preparing us for the new.
The New You is Ready to Receive
When you let go of what no longer serves you, you create space to receive God’s blessings, wisdom, opportunities, and ideas. The posture of your hands in surrender signals your readiness: “Lord, I trust You. I am ready for what You have prepared.”
Scripture reminds us:
“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” – Isaiah 43:19
That “new thing” cannot fully enter if your hands are still clinging to the old. The old patterns, old habits, old relationships—they were meant to fall away so that you could step fully into what God has for you.
Don’t Be Like Lot’s Wife
The story of Lot’s wife (Genesis 19:26) serves as a cautionary tale: don’t look back. When God calls you to move forward, looking back at the familiar can be dangerous. Lot’s wife turned into salt because she couldn’t let go of what she had known—even in the face of God’s deliverance.
Say it with us:
“I won’t look back!”
You cannot risk missing out on what God is springing up in your new season because of guilt, nostalgia, or fear. The new season requires full obedience and faith.
God Has Greener Pastures Ahead
Change can feel uncomfortable, but remember God’s promises:
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” – Jeremiah 29:11
“He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul.” – Psalm 23:2-3
God has prepared His best for you, and it’s waiting on the other side of your obedience and surrender. The old season—the relationships, habits, or mindsets that weighed you down—was only holding you back from stepping into the fullness of what He has planned.
Your Takeaway
This season is about alignment. It’s about letting go, trusting, and positioning yourself to receive the new. Keep your hands open. Keep moving forward. Keep your eyes fixed on God’s plan. Don’t cling to what is comfortable; embrace what is promised.
“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing!” – Isaiah 43:18-19
You’ve shed the old. You’ve walked in obedience. Now it’s time to step into God’s abundant promises. Don’t you want that?
